Celestial Serenade

Program note

"Celestial Serenade" for solo cor anglais draws inspiration from "Nok Yoong Fon Hang," the peacock spreading its tail feathers, a Muay Thai dance used for meditation and preparation before a fight. The composition explores the instrument's full range, from warm low tones to bright highs. Multiphonics, quick grace notes, glissandi, and wide interval leaps draw on Pi Chawa techniques and mirror the peacock's display. The result blends traditional Thai musical elements with the Western cor anglais in a demanding, expressive solo.
