Tail-trail Tiger

Program note

"Tail-trail Tiger" for contrabassoon and piano is inspired by the Muay Thai movement of the same name. Slow, calculated motion evokes a tiger stalking its prey and a fighter assessing an opponent before a sudden attack. The contrabassoon's deep resonance and delicate upper register portray deceptive stillness and latent power. Multiphonics and glissandi combine with supportive piano ostinatos in a continuously developing structure, blending Thai musical thought with Western classical form and revealing the contrabassoon's potential as a solo voice.
